François Turgeon, as an Art Director has extensive experience in cultural administration and the creative sector. He has distinguished himself in the areas of multimedia production and project management as well as book design. He produced For Transit the #1 New York Times Best-Seller Unmasked, The Final Years of Michael Jackson by Ian Halperin. 

Turgeon has also produced over 200 interactive works and co-directed several products in book design, website design and music production. In 2009, He had the project to redesign www.eureka.cc one of the Leader in News provider. With over 90 millions online articles, Eureka is one of the biggest database in Canada for News/Media.  Also he created and co-directed several interactive products, such as the digital library iThèque, as well as the album Masi Cho by the artist NEeMA (www.neema.ca).

His many accomplishments have led him to work and travel in Europe, the USA, Peru and Mexico. He has the ability to successfully develop projects in terms of financing and management, as well as to manage and motivate teams of multimedia production, including authors, musicians, programmers and designers.

Awards and Grants


As president of Tonality (2004-08), François Turgeon was able to refine his knowledge of the arts, allowing him to seize the immense commercial potential that the dissemination and publication of cultural works on the Internet represented.

He obtained the following grants and awards:

• Grant from Heritage Canada for the project www.viTheque.com, a platform for the promotion and downloading of videos for Vidéographe, a center of the media arts in Quebec.

• Finalist for the Anges Financiers of Montreal 2007. From over a hundred participating business projects, iThèque ranked among the 20 finalists and participated in the prestigious evening to network for ‘financial angels’.

• Young Promoter’s Grant, awarded by the CEDC Plateau Montreal in February 2006 for the quality and originality of the business plan for Tonality inc.

• CYBF Grant, awarded through a competition for young Canadian entrepreneurs.

• Hydro-Québec/OFQJ Grant in 2006 and 2007 awarded by the Office of Franco-Quebecers to spend two weeks in Paris for professional development

• Noise Makers 2005, Montreal Mirror 2005, produced with NEeMA, world music, folk, pop and jazz. The album released in the fall of 2006 received excellent reviews and a warm welcome from critics and the industry.

• Winner of the Spectra Grant in July 2005, awarded by the Foundation du Maire of Montreal to develop Tonality inc.

l'élève privilégié de Michel Donato

François Turgeon nous parle de son professeur de basse, Michel Donato, qui lui enseigne à Vincent D'Indy depuis le début de l'année scolaire. Selon lui, Michel est plus qu'un simple professeur. C'est d'abord un musicien de renom qui représente symboliquement la réussite d'une carrière musicale épanouie.

On peut maintenant le considérer comme un pilier important du jazz montréalais. Il mentionne également que durant sa carrière, Michel s'est produit avec les plus grands jazzmans, tels que Miles Davis, Karen Young, Oscar Peterson et plusieurs autres artistes à travers le monde. François perçoit son professeur comme un être dégageant une certaine sagesse qu'il réussit à transmettre à ses étudiants par des discussions d'ordre philosophique. Ce qui, d'après lui, est tout aussi important que l'aspect instrumental du cours.

Il leur fait part de ses expériences dans le domaine musical par des anecdotes ou des aventures qui lui sont arrivées. C'est un être humain qui reste lui-même dans toutes les circonstances. Il instaure rapidement une relation familière avec ses élèves. Ces derniers le considèrent un peu comme un deuxième père.

Être l'élève d'un musicien si renommé lui procure-t-il un certain stress? Suite à cette question, il raconte son premier contact avec Michel lors de son audition à Vincent D'Indy.
"Je pratiquais dans les locaux de réchauffement, envahi d'un stress indescriptible. Je savais que Michel pouvait entrer d'une minute à l'autre. Ma nervosité ne cessait de s'accroître quand, tout à coup, la porte s'ouvrit et j'aperçus Michel Donato, d'allure très décontractée et rassurante, entrer dans mon local avec son petit béret à la française."

"Je m'attendais à le voir arriver vêtu d'un complet, car jusque-là c'était quelqu'un d'inaccessible à mes yeux. La première chose qu'il m'a dite, était : "Bon ben! montre-moi ce que tu sais faire... Son ton m'a rassuré et j'ai tout de suite compris que c'était quelqu'un de très chaleureux."

Par la suite, il confie qu'être l'élève de Michel Donato le pousse à pratiquer davantage pour arriver bien préparé à ses cours. Il mentionne qu'il est extrêmement chanceux d'avoir Michel comme professeur et que c'est en quelque sorte un atout d'avoir le nom de Michel Donato dans son curriculum vitae.

À la suite de l'année passée aux cotés de Michel, François a progressé énormément et a développé sa passion pour le jazz. Dans deux ans, François n'aura plus Michel comme professeur puisqu'il se dirige vers l'université.

Mais il ajoute qu'il entretiendra un lien entre lui et Michel. François vise, dans un avenir rapproché, à se produire avec son propre groupe au Festival de Jazz et à faire une carrière internationale.

Ce jour-là, il devra une fière chandelle à Michel Donato.
